Nut-Free Alternatives for Daycare
With the increasing prevalence of peanut allergies, we see a rise in spaces designated as “nut-free”, including daycare. That means our classic friend the PB&J is out. Here’s some of our favorite nut-free alternatives. (We promise they’re just as tasty)
Chocolate Soy Nut Butter and Jelly (CSNB&J?)
Our all-time favorite is Chocolate Soy Nut Butter from I.M. Healthy. A single serving has only 8g of sugar plus a good amount of protein!
Yogurt + Berry Compote
If you usually prepare yogurt with a dollop of peanut butter, try this nut-free alternative. Mashing up a bunch of different berries (we love the mix of blackberry and raspberry), leaving some whole for texture. The berries are naturally sweet, so there’s no need to add sugar.
Rice Cakes + Dried Fruit “Sprinkles”
Replace the typical peanut butter spread with a light cream cheese and pack a side of finely chopped dried fruit. Your little one will love this colorful take on a classic.
Along with these alternatives, there are plenty of readymade snacks like Wheat Thins, Goldfish, and Annie’s Fruit Snacks that are nut-free. Just be sure to check the label before sending them along with your little one!
